Santa's Torchlight Parade
December 24th, 2009 Thursday, Christmas Eve
This Christmas Eve offers an event for the entire family, a fiery torchlight parade. Skiers holding torches in each hand will ski down from the top of Chair Two in a single file formation for this Montana Christmas Tradition. Spectators may view the torchlight parade from the slope side of Ed & Mully's Restaurant.
Santa Claus may take time from his busy schedule to make a cameo appearance and give presents to the children. - to provide a present for your child to be given by St Nick and a Whitefish Elf, see below.
GIFTS: Mountain guests and employees can bring a gift for Santa to give their child, with Name, Age, Town listed on the package, to the Information Center at the Baselodge, or The Whitefish Mountain Resrt Lodging Front Desk by 4pm on 12/24. If you have gifts you would like to donate to a child (but dont care who) feel free to drop off these gifts at the above location. Please label these gifts as TO SANTA.
SCHEDULE:
5:15pm: Torchlight Parade participants meet at the bottom of Chair 2 (main lift plaza) to sign waivers and review procedures.
5:30pm: Load Chair two (no later that 5:40)
6:00pm: Parade begins at top of Ed's Run
6:30pm Santa hands out gifts at Ed & Mully's Restaurant in the village after the Parade.
REGISTRATION:
Anyone who is an intermediate or better skier / snowboarder are encouraged to ski in the parade. You must be able to ski in very low light conditions and are encouraged to wear warm but worthless clothing to avoid damage from torches.
Contact the Events Department at 862-2910 to get your name on the list. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST SIGN A WAIVER AND BE AT CHAIR 2 BY 5:15 - no exceptions.
Event participants are entitled to a complimentary Chili Buffet in the Fireside Room, located near the finish of the parade inside of Ed and Mully's Restaurant.

Presentation Overview:
The Avalanche Awareness Presentation (by Whitefish Backcountry) promotes safe backcountry travel. Whether you ski, snowshoe, snowboard or snowmobile, knowing how to choose appropriate terrain for the conditions is a matter of life and death. Our weather has a tremendous influence on the snowpack and its stability, while you, the backcountry traveler may be just the trigger for its subsequent collapse. Learn to recognize the clues which spell danger for you and your party. Avoiding an avalanche is a better option than hoping for a successful rescue.
This multimedia overview is a great refresher for seasoned backcountry travelers, as well as a primer for those of you new to your respective sport. Official information and registration for avalanche certification courses through the American Institute for Avalanche and Research Education (AIARE) will be available.

DESCRIPTION:
This event is open to everyone, and families are encouraged to participate in this ski-all-the-blue-runs-on-the-mountain-and-win-free-stuff-for-fun event. This is one of the busiest days of the year, and all you have to do is enter, ski around, listen to some good music, have some fun and win fun prizes.There will be live music inside Ed and Mully's during lunch and the Baselodge for Apres Ski for the prize giveaway. The more runs you ski, the better chance you have to win! There is no fee to enter (though you must have a lift ticket), and the music is free as well.
Live Music: Foursquare Church Choir at Ed and Mully's from 1130-2pm and at the Baselodge form 2:30-4:30pm
REGISTRATION:
Register at either checkpoint (at the summit or at the lift plaza) at any time from 9AM to 4PM.
SCHEDULE:
Ski by Mountain Wide Checkpoints for chances to win prizes - 9am-4pm. Checkpoints located at the Summit, and at the Main Chair Plaza. Just follow the Music!
Prize Raffle is at the Baselodge around 4:15pm for all Cruisers who have skied at least 10 blue runs throughout the day.
FEES: Everyone does need a lift ticket! There is no fee to enter, just register, ski and win!
This event is geared towards families and is an all access type of event (no entry fee or skill required, just ski, ride and see live music and maybe win some free stuff!).

29 Risan Project
Ski Film + Live Musica @ The Great Northern Bar

The Risan Project utilizes multi-media events to raise awareness of climate change and the praxis of alternative lifestyles. Environmental policy must reflect the acknowledgement of a global climate crisis. Affecting policy decisions begins with knowledge and awareness of the current state of the environment and alternatives to current systems of energy production and usage. The Risan Project raises awareness about these critical issues in the production of concert tours with film and slideshow presentations with alternative energy travel and event production.
The 2009-2010 tour features Boulder's conscious funk, jazz hip-hop band, Salem; film premiers with Sweetgrass Productions' latest film, "Signatures"; the film-short "Generations" produced by Protect Our Winters/Northface/Teton Gravity Research; and appearances with presenters from Al Gore's Climate Project and Olympic athletes from the Climate Project "Play It Cool" Campaign. The Risan Project is also working with Atlanta's Tree Power & Sound and Sustainable Waves to power select events with solar and wind-powered sound systems.

5th Annual New Years Eve Rockin’ Rail Jam, Torchlight Parade and Holiday Fireworks Show
December 31,2009 - Thursday
DESCRIPTION: This event is the Grand Finale of our Holiday celebrations. See Skiers and Snowboarders slide custom built rail features under the lights, ending with a Torchlight Parade and the best fireworks show of the season. From 5-6:15 there will be an ‘ open jam session’ immediately followed by a torchlight parade and fireworks show at 6:15PM. This event is a great way to spend your New Year’s Eve, fun for the whole family.
The Competition part of the event – the Rail Jam –will showcase skiers / snowboarders hitting the features as much as possible in a given amount of time, so there is no break in the action between riders (shred city). This format of event is great for spectators. The Jam will offer a variety of terrain park features our panel of judges will score the best rider/skier in each category. 1st place prize for Open Class Snowboard and Ski is a check for $350.
For the Torchlight and Fireworks - Located just outside of Ed & Mully’s Restaurant, the venue offers great views of the Torchlight Parade, Fireworks Show and of the Rail Jam itself. The torchlight parade and fireworks begin just as soon as the rail jam portion of the event is over, so grab some mulled wine and come on out and enjoy the holiday fun!
SCHEDULE: 5pm – 6:15pm Open jam session.
6:15 Torchlight and Fireworks to begin the moment the jam is over.
6:35 Awards. This will take place at bottom of rail jam, amidst the crowd after the fireworks.
REGISTRATION and INSPECTION: 3pm-4:30pm Inspection for registered competitors only. 3pm – 4:30pm Registration at bottom of Venue (near Ed & Mullys).
There will be a 5 dollar bib deposit, that will be exchanged at the end of the competition. Limited to first 60 competitors only. Competitors must wear an approved helmet and be 8 years or older.
Day Of Registration- Right next to the venue, green building with flat roof -2pm – 5pm Participants under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign waiver of liability. No exceptions. The venue will be open for training no earlier than 3pm 12/31/09. Ealy Registration is available at the Baselodge, Ends 2PM 12/30/09.
**TORCHLIGHT REGISTRATION: Only Employees or Guests of Mountain Employees may carry torches in the Torchlight Parade. Must be intermediate or advanced skiers or snowboarders. Contact the Snowsports School at 862-2907 to get your name on the list. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST SIGN A WAIVER – no exceptions.

DESCRIPTION:
On January 23rd (24th will serve as a weather date in case there is avalanche control work needed the morning of the 23rd) Whitefish Mountain Resort hosts it’s third annual Ski Mountaineering event - the Whitefish Whiteout. The Whitefish Whiteout is a race in the European randonee tradition. Competitors will skin up the slopes of Whitefish Mountain Resort, remove their skins and descend the most challenging terrain that conditions permit. The course will take competitors on an up and down route throughout Whitefish Mountain Resort.
The Whitefish Whiteout is part of the national US Ski Mountaineering series and open to AT/ Touring, telemark skiers or split board snowboarders with a mens and womens category and Recreational course and Race Course category for each discipline.
The ‘Race’ category course will include between 3-4 ascents and descents - total vertical will be approximately 4,000 ft. The ‘Recreation’ course will include at least two ascents and descents with approximately 2,000 ft. of vertical climbing. The Whiteout is a backcountry ski mountaineering race (within the resort permit area) and as such, requires all participants to wear a helmet and carry a beacon, shovel and probe.
Start time is 8:30 AM at the Chair One Plaza. Please be there a in plenty of time to register.
For a 50$ entry fee ($30 for the recreation course) competitors receive a various swag and tshirts, plus a chance to win cash, prizes and measure up against some of the best endurance athletes in the nation, and in the valley.
Whiteout gives new meaning to “Earn your turns!” The race route will be announced and will be adjusted per snow conditions on race day. Come join the fun and see how fast you can get up and down and around the mountain.

Commentary
The Whitefish Mountain Resort held the second in a series of the Tommy Moe Kids League Competitions. The Giant Slalom Event attracted a record 68 contestants, 4 snowboarders and 64 skiers, ages 5-12. After an unfortunate late start to the race the kids only had time for one run each. With smiles on their faces they still understood the one run on Lower Eds was “all or nothing”. The two overall fastest times went to racers Brittain Walton with a time of 30.90 and Katherine Millette with a time of 32.10. Coaching the contest was Snow Sport instructor Bruce Clark; with numerous volunteers. Thank you volunteers! |

DESCRIPTION:
The Night Rider's Park Series is a series of 3 terrain park freestyle events open to both skiers and snowboarders. This series offers a great experience for first time competitors, as well as the chance for our best skiers and riders in the area to throw down in the park. These events are spread over 3 Nights under the lights of night skiing, focusing on separate freestyle disciplines which take place on three Friday nights this winter. The first is a double feature Event (Friday, Jan 29), A Rail Jam (Saturday, Feb 6), and a full Terrain Park Slopestyle Event (Friday, Feb 26). Each night we will host an awards ceremony at Ed and Mully's Somkehouse in the Resort Village area just after the competition. The first night is a 'Double Feature Competition' best trick format. We will offer either the Armory Jump (around a 55 footer) for the Open Class and the first jump in Central Ave with a 25 footer or a 30 footer (riders choice) for grom and am skiers/snowboarders to hit for the competition. Either 2-3 runs (depending on time) will be judged based on overall impression of the amplitude, execution and difficulty of the tricks. This event is great for spectators as the venue is small and able to be seen without obstruction.
The second Night Riders Event is a 'Rail Jam' event. Rail Jams are great as they allow skiers and snowboarders to hit the features as many times as they can in an allotted amount of time. This allows for constant action throughout the event and is a ton of fun to watch for participants and spectators. This rail jam is extra special because it will take place just before our 'Winter Carnival Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Show' and 'Dash for Cash' to help celebrate Whitefish's tradition of Winter Carnival.
The third and final Night Riders Park Series event of 2010 will be a Slopestyle competition. Slopestyle events provide the best opportunity for skiers and snowboarders to throw down their best tricks on full runs through the Fishbowl Terrain Park, using as many Jumps and Rail features as possible. Competitors will be judged on their performance of different tricks. Each competitor will get two runs where judges will pick the top rider for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all categories, based on overall impression, style and difficulty.
No license required - open to all competitors 8 years old and up.
All competitors must wear an approved helmet.

6-8pm - Competition

DESCRIPTION:
Whitefish Mountain Resort's participation of Whitefish Winter Carnival continues this year with a torchlight parade followed by fireworks show. This is an event for the entire family, offering great viewing from the bottom of Ed's run, just outside of Ed & Mully's Smokehouse in the village. These shows include a fiery torchlight parade, and a great Fireworks display to finish it all off. For more information on Whitefish Winter Carnival go to www.whitefishwintercarnival.com .
As another treat, the torchlight parade and fireworks will be held just after the 'Night Riders' Rail Jam' and 'Dash for Cash'.
The Rail Jam lets you can watch skiers and snowboarders slide custom built rail features in an action packed competition before the parade begins.
The Dash for Cash is open to everyone - first to sign up get a chance to run a fun obstacle course for the chance to win some CASH. Free to enter!
SCHEDULE: The Torchlight parade begins after dusk (7:00 pm) from the top of chair 2, and fireworks follow directly after. The Night Riders Rail Jam begins at 5:45, and the Dash for Cash Begins at 6:45, so come out and have some fun! Register for the dash just before it begins!
SPECIAL CLOSURE: Night skiing on Chair 2 will be closed from 6:45pm to approximately 7:30pm.
REGISTRATION:
Anyone who is an intermediate or better skier / snowboarder are encouraged to ski in the parade. You must be able to ski in very low light conditions and are encouraged to wear warm but worthless clothing to avoid damage from torches.

Pro rider Jamie Lynn will be at the show as well as all the Volcom Entertainment Crew. We are so stoked to have Volcom and company come to Whitefish and give us a free show, so don't miss it!!!

Whitefish Mountain Resort hosts small fun competitions many Sundays from January 3 thru March 21 for kids ages 5-12. Type of events will alternate; see schedule. On site coaching available. These mini events will be a good opportunity for us to promote our programs and teams, scout the athletes, and allow parents and kids to learn about all the programs, teams and larger events at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

13 Cruise the Blues

DESCRIPTION:
This event is open to everyone, and families are encouraged to participate in this ski-all-the-blue-runs-on-the-mountain-and-win-free-stuff-for-fun event. This is one of the busiest days of the year, and all you have to do to is enter, ski around, listen to some great music (courtesy of the Bridger Creek Boys), have some fun and win fun prizes. There will be live music inside Ed and Mully's during lunch and the Baselodge at the end of the day.
There is no fee to enter (though you must have a lift ticket), and the music is free as well.
REGISTRATION:
Register at either checkpoint (at the summit or at the lift plaza) at any time from 9AM to 3PM.
SCHEDULE:
Ski by Checkpoints for chances to win prizes - 9am-3pm. Checkpoints located at the Summit, and at the Main Chair Plaza. Just follow the Music!

This event is geared towards families and is an all access type of event (no entry fee or skill required, just ski, ride and see live music and maybe win some free stuff!).
The Bridger Creek Boys Biography -
The Bridger Creek Boys are an acoustic Bluegrass quartet steeped in old-time bluegrass tradition with a good dose of modern “Newgrass”. The Band mixes originals with covers of traditional bluegrass material (Bill Monroe, Dock Boggs, etc) and more contemporary artists (Greatful Dead, Steve Earle, The Band, etc). The Bridger Creek Boys have spent the past four years bringing their music to audiences in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. The band was a finalist in the 2007 Telluride New Band Competition, and hosted the first and second annual Bozeman Bluegrass Festivals.

The Avalanche Awareness Presentation (by Whitefish Backcountry) promotes safe backcountry travel. Whether you ski, snowshoe, snowboard or snowmobile, knowing how to choose appropriate terrain for the conditions is a matter of life and death. Our weather has a tremendous influence on the snowpack and its stability, while you, the backcountry traveler may be just the trigger for its subsequent collapse. Learn to recognize the clues which spell danger for you and your party. Avoiding an avalanche is a better option than hoping for a successful rescue.
This multimedia overview is a great refresher for seasoned backcountry travelers, as well as a primer for those of you new to your respective sport. Official information and registration for avalanche certification courses through the American Institute for Avalanche and Research Education (AIARE) will be available.

DESCRIPTION:
The Night Rider's Park Series is a series of 3 terrain park freestyle events open to both skiers and snowboarders. This series offers a great experience for first time competitors, as well as the chance for our best skiers and riders in the area to throw down in the park. These events are spread over 3 Friday Nights under the lights of night skiing, focusing on separate freestyle disciplines which take place on three Friday nights this winter. The first is a double feature Event (Friday, Jan 29), A Rail Jam (Saturday, Feb 6), and a full Terrain Park Slopestyle Event (Friday, Feb 26). Each night we will host an awards ceremony at Ed and Mully's Somkehouse in the Resort Village area just after the competition. Be sure to check Freeskier.com for event coverage of the Night Riders Park Series.
The first night is a 'Double Feature Competition'. We will offer either the Armory Jump (around a 55 footer) for the Open Class and the first jump in Central Ave with a 25 footer or a 30 footer (riders choice) for grom and am skiers/snowboarders to hit for the competition. Either 2-3 runs (depending on time) will be judged based on overall impression of the amplitude, execution and difficulty of the tricks. This event is great for spectators as the venue is small and able to be seen without obstruction.
The second Night (2/6)Riders Event was a 'Rail Jam' event. Rail Jams are great as they allow skiers and snowboarders to hit the features as many times as they can in an allotted amount of time. This allows for constant action throughout the event and is a ton of fun to watch for participants and spectators. This rail jam is extra special because it will take place just before our 'Winter Carnival Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Show' and 'Dash for Cash' to help celebrate Whitefish's tradition of Winter Carnival.
This is the third and final Night Riders Park Series event of 2010, a Slopestyle competition (Friday, 2/26). Slopestyle events provide the best opportunity for skiers and snowboarders to throw down their best tricks on full runs through the Fishbowl Terrain Park, using as many Jumps and Rail features as possible. Competitors will be judged on their performance of different tricks. Each competitor will get two runs where judges will pick the top rider for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all categories, based on overall impression, style and difficulty.
No license required - open to all competitors 8 years old and up.
All competitors must wear an approved helmet.

14th Montana Special Olympics 2010
DESCRIPTION: This will be the 14th year that the Montana State Special Olympics winter games have been held on at Whitefish Mountain Resort. The athletes train all year for this special event, and we expect hundreds of athletes and we need dozens of volunteers to help (Karen Kimball @ 837-0319). This is the best day on the mountain, no matter the weather.
Athletes compete in various alpine and snowboard racing, snowshoeing, nordic skiing events.
There will be an official 'Opening Ceremonies' downtown whitefish on 2/28, with a parade of athletes and incredible support from the local community.
Monday is the first day of competition, with qualifying for the medal rounds on Tuesday
Tuesday is the Medal Rounds, closing ceremonies, and last day for MT Special Olympics this winter.

Whitefish Mountain Resort hosts small fun competitions many Sundays from January 3 thru March 21 for kids ages 5-12. Type of events will alternate; see schedule. On site coaching available. These mini events will be a good opportunity for us to promote our programs and teams, scout the athletes, and allow parents and kids to learn about all the programs, teams and larger events at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

DESCRIPTION: This will be the 14th year that the Montana State Special Olympics winter games have been held on at Whitefish Mountain Resort. The athletes train all year for this special event, and we expect hundreds of athletes and we need dozens of volunteers to help (Karen Kimball @ 837-0319). This is the best day on the mountain, no matter the weather.
Athletes compete in various alpine and snowboard racing, snowshoeing, nordic skiing events.
There will be an official 'Opening Ceremonies' downtown whitefish on 2/28, with a parade of athletes and incredible support from the local community.
Monday is the first day of competition, with qualifying for the medal rounds on Tuesday.
Tuesday is the Medal Rounds, closing ceremonies, and last day for MT Special Olympics this winter.

The course is lower Hellroaring to Ed's Run, and consists of about 15 gates on a dual course for some righteous head to head ski racing.

The level 2 course is a 4-day program that provides backcountry leaders the opportunity to advance their avalanche knowledge and decision making skills. This course also includes the introductory and prerequisite components for the professional progression: the level 3 certificate.
The Level 2 builds from the introductory avalanche hazard management model introduced in the level one and adds to it the evaluation of factors critical to stability evaluation.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Advance understanding of avalanche terrain, particularly from the perspective of stability analysis.
- Discuss how the snowpack develops and metamorphoses over time; and discuss the factors that contribute to spatial variability.
- Learn standard observation guidelines and recording formats for factors that influence or indicate snow stability. SWAG MODULE.
- Advance understanding of avalanche release and triggering mechanisms.

2nd Annual DUMMY DERBY
March 6, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
1st place overall wins $500.This is a great spring time event, capturing the fun of spring skiing combined with inanimate objects soaring through the air and crashing down to earth!!! Open the gate to high flying, speed demons of every shape and size (up to 125lbs) on Saturday, March 6th, but with a catch... no entries may have a pulse! Seriously!
Come view or participate in the 2nd annual Dummy Derby at Whitefish Mountain Resort, where homemade dummies will compete for the 2nd Dummy Derby Championship!
Dummy Teams (no more than 4 humans can register one dummy) build dummies attached securely to skis or snowboards and then send them down a groomed trough to launch off a jump into a crash pit!
Dummies must be brought to the upper village parking area (near Hellroaring Saloon and the Alpinglow) by 12:30 PM the day of the event (You must park elsewhere after dropping off your dummy creation).
You may register your dummy there, where it must past inspection for the rules below. All dummies will be judged on their creativity and originality.
The jumping will begin at 4:30pm. (the event will beheld on lower slalom). An awards ceremony will follow at the venue about 30 minutes after the last bit of destruction.
Contest Rules:
What you Can do -
Build a homemade Dummy / mannequin / humanoid / sculpture on skis or snowboards.
Each Dummy should be able to slide unassisted down a fall line course (the course will be on lower slalom)
The dummy must have clothes on and be family friendly.
Each entry must weigh under 125lbs, including skis and all.
Build your entry from safe materials. - no glass, nails, toxic materials...
The Dummy Team is required to clean up, haul away and dispose of their dummies and any debris, wreckage and remains afterward. A $50 clean up deposit wil
l be collected at registration to ensure your help in cleaning this junk up!!!
What you can NOT do -
Dummy teams are encouraged to be as creative as they can. Rules are -
The Dummy can not be (or ever have been) live or breathing.
The Dummy can not weight more than 125 lbs.---skis and all
The Dummy must be securely mounted on skis or snowboard(s).
The Dummy may not have any glass or sharp metal objects.
The Dummy may not have any motorization or explosives.
The Dummy must be registered at Whitefish Mountain Resort by 12:30pm the day of the event.
The Dummy Team may not be more than 4 people (and no one will ride on the raft)

Judging:
Half of the score is earned by most original design and the other half by how the dummies perform in the Downhill. A panel of judges will score Dummies on originality/creativity at 1:00pm. All criteria are totally subjective, and judges will be looking for winners in the following categories -

Kids, ages 7-17, participating in our Ski and Snowboard School Jr. Programs will compete in timed racing. Top three times in each category (instructor group) will receive 1st, 2nd, 3rd place ribbon, everyone else a participant ribbon.

AIARE Level 2: Analyzing Snow Stability and Avalanche Hazard
The level 2 course is a 4-day program that provides backcountry leaders the opportunity to advance their avalanche knowledge and decision making skills. This course also includes the introductory and prerequisite components for the professional progression: the level 3 certificate.
The Level 2 builds from the introductory avalanche hazard management model introduced in the level one and adds to it the evaluation of factors critical to stability evaluation.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Advance understanding of avalanche terrain, particularly from the perspective of stability analysis.
- Discuss how the snowpack develops and metamorphoses over time; and discuss the factors that contribute to spatial variability.
- Learn standard observation guidelines and recording formats for factors that influence or indicate snow stability. SWAG MODULE.
- Advance understanding of avalanche release and triggering mechanisms.
- Introduce a snow stability analysis and forecasting framework.
- Improve companion rescue skills including multiple and deep burials.

FVSA will be grilling up some fun on the northwest side of Gray Wolf run. Stop by for hamburgers while skiing at WMR or snowmobiling up Canyon Creek. Either way, we'll do all the cooking!

DESCRIPTION:
This is a snowboard competition held in memory of Nate Chute, and has turned into one of the most prolific snowboard events in the NW. Nate was a well known snowboarder from Whitefish, who tragically took his own life at a young age. Now, many of his friends come back to Whitefish from all over the west coast to participate in this event. A portion of the proceeds go to the Nate Chute Memorial Fund which provides help to local teens and adolescents during times of need. Cash prizes for Pro/Open categories, with a purse of $3500 US. This event has also continued to gain great exposure, check out this link

Saturday will be a banked slalom through the lower part of the boardercross course into George's Gorge on Chair 7. This is a timed event which seeds racers for the Sunday boardercross.
Sunday is the Biggest Boardercross in Montana (one of the biggest in the NW), with almost 100 riders competing for the title and coolest trophies around. Two to Five racers at a time race through a great course consisting of jumps, banks, rollers and traffic. Top 2 riders advance to next round, each rider has at least 2 chances before being eliminated. Very very, very, very fun. And it is very fun.
This year is the 11th year of the event, and there will be celebrations all weekend. An extra special thanks goes out to the Nate Chute Foundation and Stumptown Snowboards for being fantastic contributors to this long standing event. 2 Bands will be playing at the Bierstube after the Sunday Boardercross. The Runs from Fernie, BC and Burning Cattle from right here in WF. If you like snowboarding, this is the one for you. We are even going to have a high ollie contest at this year's Nate, something new for you...

Master's, Juniors, and Citizen Class are open to any Telemark Racer wanting to race. No experience is necessary. Elite Competitors must have a USTSA Competitive Membership.
Members of the US Telemark Ski Team will be attending and competing for the National Champion title. Kelsey Schmid-Sommer of Whitefish is the 4-time women's champion and will be defending her title. DESCRIPTION:
This is a two part event that makes up our biggest terrain park event of the winter, the Corn Cup. Named after the corn snow that is so fun to ride in the park at the end of every season, these events are open to both skiers and snowboarders. If you want to see the best rippers in the region go huge, this is the event for you. Great for spectators, families, riders, whoever. Come and check out this event. Did I mention big cash prizes???
The first day will be a rail jam located just above the Baselodge. This is our last freestyle event of the winter, and the last chance to see the region's best throw down on some park features. This will be held during the Music Festival at the Baselodge on the same day. We will be giving away tons of prizes and plenty of cash!
The second day is a slopestyle event. Slopestyle events provide the best opportunity for skiers and snowboarders to throw down their best tricks on full runs through the Fishbowl Terrain Park, using as many Jumps and Rail features as possible. Competitors will be judged on their performance of different tricks. Each competitor will get two runs where judges will pick the top rider for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all categories, based on overall impression, style and difficulty. Amateurs/ Groms and Ladies will compete in the Central Avenue Park, and Pros will have the option to throw down in the Armory Park.
No license required - open to all competitors 8 years old and up.
All competitors must wear an approved helmet.

Welcome to the first ever 'Shakedown Street' Fishtival. This festival has a theme centered around the Grateful Dead as we will put together the best 'Lot Scene' on snow since the dead played in 'the cold rain and snow' back in the day. Drum Circles, Free Tye Dying for kids, 'lot food' such as Kind Veggie Burritos grilled cheese, and Fire Dancing along with mountain based activities including Laser Tag, Dog Sledding, Arts and Crafts, along with the Corn Cup Rail Jam. The Rail Jam will showcase the mountains best skiers and boarders as they hit custom built rail features for your viewing pleasure. There will be a chance to win some cash at the 'Dash For Cash' along with great music all day long.
All the fun will be based out of our own Baselodge at the bottom of the mountain.

The Bridger Creek Boys Biography -
The Bridger Creek Boys are an acoustic Bluegrass quartet steeped in old-time bluegrass tradition with a good dose of modern “Newgrass”. The Band mixes originals with covers of traditional bluegrass material (Bill Monroe, Dock Boggs, etc) and more contemporary artists (Greatful Dead, Steve Earle, The Band, etc). The Bridger Creek Boys have spent the past four years bringing their music to audiences in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. The band was a finalist in the 2007 Telluride New Band Competition, and hosted the first and second annual Bozeman Bluegrass Festivals.
Original Bridger Creek Boys Matt Broughton (Fiddle) and Jim Dungan(Guitar) are excited to be playing with the newest members of the band, Tony Polecastro (Dobro/Banjo) and Scott Stebbins (Bass). The new line-up features an incredible energy and an outstanding level of playing. A Bridger Creek Boys show never fails to give both the band and the audience a good ol’ time! |

5th Annual Corn Cup - Terrain Park Blowout

DESCRIPTION:
This is a two part event that makes up our biggest terrain park event of the winter, the Corn Cup. Named after the corn snow that is so fun to ride in the park at the end of every season, these events are open to both skiers and snowboarders. If you want to see the best rippers in the region go huge, this is the event for you. Great for spectators, families, riders, whoever. Come and check out this event. Did I mention big cash prizes???
The first day will be a rail jam located just above the Baselodge. This is our last freestyle event of the winter, and the last chance to see the region's best throw down on some park features. This will be held during the Music Festival at the Baselodge on the same day. We will be giving away tons of prizes and plenty of cash!
The second day is a slopestyle event. Slopestyle events provide the best opportunity for skiers and snowboarders to throw down their best tricks on full runs through the Fishbowl Terrain Park, using as many Jumps and Rail features as possible. Competitors will be judged on their performance of different tricks. Each competitor will get two runs where judges will pick the top rider for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all categories, based on overall impression, style and difficulty. Amateurs/ Groms and Ladies will compete in the Central Avenue Park, and Pros will have the option to throw down in the Armory Park.
No license required - open to all competitors 8 years old and up.
All competitors must wear an approved helmet.

Awards will be held on Sunday after the event at Ed and Mully's Restaurant.

Pre registration is available at the Baselodge Ticket Office. Pre registration ends at noon the day prior to the event and will be open during posted registration hours on the day of the event.
Participants under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign waiver of liability.
No exceptions.

DESCRIPTION:
The competition is open to all competitors 21yrs and older, and everyone is welcome to come watch this great winter Finale. The pond skimming celebrates the wacky feeling of spring and the end of another great ski season.
Participants must have skis or snowboards appropriately worn (normally mounted) as they attempt to cross an 80+ foot pond. Costumes are recommended and will be judged in a category of its own. Skimming will be an individual competition based on longest skim ($1000 for first place, Great Prizes for second through 3rd place, and some other prizes - maybe best splash crash & slide, and a one hour massage for best crash). Participants will advance to the next round after each successful skim. Each subsequent round will be started lower down the slope, making it more difficult to cross the pond with less speed. We go till the last skimmer is a winner! This event always sells out for competitors, and we have had upwards of 2000 spectators. Come and end the season with the best end of season throw down around!!!
REGISTRATION:
Participants should pre-register at least one day prior to event to receive the $5 discount (early registration at the Baselodge Info center) 8am-5pm daily. Otherwise, registration will be at the venue (chair one lift plaza, skiers left of the chair) starting at 12:30.
The event is limited to 60 participants, so be there early if you want to skim!
Participants should check in at by 1pm, and show up at top of start 45 minutes before event starts. It sells out quick, because everyone likes to win big money!
FEES:
$25.00 per person, $30 day of and only if availability still there (60 skimmers max).

04 Last Day of the Winter Season

It had to come sometime. Come up and enjoy the last lift accessed turns of the season in Whitefish. Think back on the good times, remember those best lines, and dont forget about you summer pass up on the mountain.
